LOCAL FACILITIES
If you intend to book the house then download our pdf's of useful local information along with the 'where to find the nearest...' document. There will, however, be copies of these documents in a ringbinder in the living room. For taxis, just ask for a taxi in the bar in Es Cubells. It should arrive within 10 mins or so. As a guide a trip into Ibiza Town is approx. 25 euros.
1 km from the house is the village of Es Cubells. Although tiny, it does have a small shop with food and basic household items. There are also two places to eat in the village. Llumbi Bar / Restaurant (closed on Mondays) has menus in different languages and spectacular sea views from the dining terrace. Across the square is a bar more used by locals, but open to all, which has a daily selection of tasty home-made dishes and tapas.
There is also a church, a payphone and a bus stop for the daily bus to Ibiza Town.
Another 1km after the village is the nearest supermarket called Mestre, it is well stocked, has a great deli counter, lovingly made bocadillos (great sandwiches to take to the beach) and sells fresh bread, veg, meat, fish and international newspapers. Adjoining the supermarket is a bar. Having bought patisserie in the supermarket, order a coffee and sit on the terrace outside.
Continuing along the same road for about another 7kms you come to the nearest town, Sant Josep. Here you will find the bank, cash machines, several shops and restaurants (Es Galliner & El Destino are particularly nice), a stationer's with an internet connection & local phone card topups, a post office, a police station and on the road out towards Ibiza Town - a petrol station.
There is another larger supermarket - Eroski - on the road to Ibiza Town, slightly set back from the main road, on the right shortly before the large roundabout before entering the town.
The nearest food hypermarket is in Ibiza Town on the way out to Sant Eulalia on a road called Crta SAN JUAN. The supermarket is called Eroski Center but locals call it SYP. It's on a dual carriage way so you may find yourself having to turn round at the next roundabout.
The nearest beach can be seen from the house, but the easiest way to reach it is by driving to Es Cubells and then taking the small beach road off the square in front of the church. It's a windy coastal road with great views. You'll find a signposted slip road off to the left to Ses Boques Beach. If you find yourself reaching a kind of Security Guard House, you've gone too far. There's a nice, if a little over-priced, bar/restaurant on this beach open from May to October.
This is a mainly pebble beach, but handy and very peaceful. NB.Take waterproof sandals for swimming/paddling, the pebbles hurt your feet getting in and out of the water. |
