WHERE TO EAT

In Es Cubells:
Bar Llumbi: Calamares, fish and meat dishes. Spectacular sea views. Approx 20 euros per head. Closed on Mondays.

Local Bar: Village hangout for the locals but open to all. No menu but a daily selection of tasty home-made dishes and tapas, from anchovies to tortilla to rabbit stew. Cheap and cheerful. Approx 8 euros.

Los Pinos: Down the beach road past Es Cubells church. Set in pine woods. Approx 30 euros.

L’Altra Luna: Italian on the road into Es Cubells by Cala d'Hort turning. Very nice atmosphere. Mid-range prices. Tel. 971 802 150

On Es Cubells Ses Boques beach, there is a restaurant of the same name, serving delicious fresh fish and tasty bites on a shady terrace. Not particularly cheap and often serves the yacht fraternity.

Cala d’Hort:
El Carmen: Big beachfront restaurant. Extensive menu. Lots of seafood dishes, including paella.

Es Boldado: Lovely views. Perched on a precipitous cliff facing the mystical rock of Es Vedra. The sunsets and fish dishes are memorable. Tel. 626 494 537

Sant Josep:
Es Galliner: Cosy inside room or terrace on a small side street. Hearty, delicious dishes, nicely presented in an informal atmosphere. Also open out of season. Approx 25 euros.

EL Destino: Probably the best tapas in Ibiza. Modestly priced, just off the main square opposite the church.

Ibiza Town:
Bon Profit: on Plaza del Parque. Cheap simple food. Approx 10 euros. Open all year round. Closed Sundays. No booking necessary - just queue!

El Olivo: Inside the walls of the old town, great people-watching location. Excellent. Book in advance. Approx 45 euros. Tel: 971 300 680

Civet: Facing the free car park on Calle Murcia, a somewhat unassuming location for this restaurant with an interesting modern fusion menu. Groovy zen-like décor. Approx 30 euros. Tel. 971 306 916

Others around and about:
KM5: Bohemian haven (inauspicious from the outside), set in a maze of palms, gnarled trees, hidden bars, cushions & bedouin tents. Functions as a chill out bar before and after clubbing. Also a very nice restaurant. Suggest booking. It's on the main road in between the airport and the Es Cubells turn off. Tel: 971 39 63 49

Bambuddha Grove: Thai/Asian and Mediterranean cuisine amidst Buddhas in a bamboo grove surrounded by potato fields. Worth seeing. 8kms north of Ibiza Town on the road to Sant Joan. Reservations advised. Approx 45 euros. Tel: 971 19 75 10

Clodenis: Great country cuisine, farmhouse setting. In Sant Rafael. Approx 50 euros. Tel: 971 19 85 45

Bigote: A hidden gem. No telephone so you need to go there to reserve a table. There's only one sitting for lunch and no menu, but the seafood dish of the day doesn’t come much fresher: caught and served by a local fisherman’s family to your table inches from the clear waters of Cala Mastella cove. Lunch served at 2.30pm on the dot. Take your swim things. Approx 20 euros.

Tropicana Beach Club: more info by clicking here. Wining and dining on the beach in style, at Cala Jondal. Tel: 971 18 75 20

Can Berri Vell in Sant Agostin:
Lovely (pricier) restaurant in an old rustic finca in Sant Agostin Square (pix below). Great service. Great ambience. Great food. Book in advance. Tel. 971 34 43 21
